Kamadhenu
Mother of cows
DOB 11/7/2018

Kamadhenu was one of biggest calves and a female out of the 20 or so calves needing rescue at the dairy closing down in Crystal Creek Qld.. Her appearance with the white crown and jersey coloured orange/auburn undercoat was striking. She stood up from the herd, as if to say I’m not missing out. She was the first to rescued by us and has since been a very diligent forager, always the first to the feed bucket, with a huge appetite, most calves do, but hers is exceptional. She is always the one to race to the pasture. A bit of a hog, she is growing the biggest, but is also so kind, loves a pat and a hug and isn’t shy to give one a big lick! She is also a protector, nurtures and gives shelter to the others when in need. She is a cross jersey/freesia

Bolenath or Bolo
Gentleman
DOB 28/7/2018

Not like his name suggests (for those that know the meaning of Bolenath) he is a real gentleman. We consider him to be the most intelligent of the four and with good looks to boot. Well mannered and also kind, Bolo is also affectionate (some of the time) he does like to call the shots. When we rescued him, I remembered he came right up to me, as if to say, ‘hey I am coming?’. I replied, ‘would you like to live a whole natural life with us. He seemed to oblige and so we he was lifted straight into the rescue van. Bolenath is a cross jersey/freesia.

Kali Ma
Wild one
DOB 18/7/2018

Kali Ma was also one of the most beautiful calves in appearance much like Kamadhenu. But never judge a Book by its cover, appearances are deceiving! Although, beautiful on the outside, she is vastly different in nature to all other cows I have met. It took three of us about half an hour including the farmer and his wife to corner this 4 week old calf. Kicking and struggling we got her into the back of the van. When she arrived at the property, she only wanted out, out of her pen and back to her mumma. So I tied her and thought I would take her for a walk around. This didn’t last long. As soon as we were out of her new stable, she got off the rope and ran like the clappers into the forest. It took me about an hour of chasing her down, before I cornered her in the creek that she jumped into, chest high in water. From there, I was able to get a rope around her, but still she just resisted and resisted after huge amount of time. So much so, that I had to physically pick her up. Kicking and mooing all the way, as I carried her back to her stable. I think she was a bit scarred by humans, as she had two nasty big holes in her ear (normally a tag will only go through one part of the ear) from when the farmer tagged her. She also was reluctant to take milk, even out of the bucket, so this has slowed her growth a little. Though still a little timid she has settled into the sanctuary well, makes strange deep man voice sounds, loves to jump and will occasionally let one pat her. Kali M is a cross jersey/freesia.Kali M is a cross jersey/freesia.

Vishnu or Choccy
Bringer of happiness
DOB 10/8/2018

The youngest of our herd, Vishnu as he was first named by a carer who wants to re-home him, is just absolutely sweet. Being the youngest, he is small and has been a bit of runt, oftentimes having to fight the much bigger members of the herd for his fare share of the feed. Everyone, who lays eyes on him, just seems to smile. He had such a huge over-bight when he was younger looking a little like a some kind of ghaul. Tho Vishni is just so sweet, brave and kind and being the youngest of the herd, has also learnt to be pretty tough. Due to his colouring our daughter named him choccy, so he has two names. Choccy is a loveable pure Jersey bull. Sadly we lost Vishnu is the floods, so he is no longer with us. RIP Vishnu/Choccy
